Die Berge sind wichtig. Sie beeindrucken mich. Ich sehe sie am Horizont, wo Häuser und Straße den Blick frei geben. Sie umzingeln die Stadt, wahrscheinlich eine Art natürlicher Schmelztiegel. Abends stehen die Menschen vor den Häusern und unterhalten sich, der Verkehr schwillt an. Die Hügel thronen. Erahnen wir Sizilien? Sind sie die Säulen hin zur Vorstellung einer Identität auf einer Insel. Natur sollte in der Stadt nicht vergessen werden, denke ich. Warum erscheinen sie für mich präsenter als das Meer? Ist das Meer nicht so wichtig für die Hafenstadt? – augenscheinlich ein Widerspruch an sich.
The mountains are important. They impress me. I see them at the horizon, where buildings and streets open the view upon them. Mountains surround the city, perhaps a natural melting-pot. In the evening people are standing in front of their houses and talk, traffic is getting dense. The hills sit on their throne. Do we guess that it’s Sicily? Are the mountains the pillars for the island’s identity? We should not forget the impact of nature on a city, I think. Why do the mountains appear to me more present than the sea? Isn’t the sea important to a harbor-city? – it maybe a contradiction in itself.
